DUNDEE LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

TRASH SUPERSTAR - LEATHER E.P.

A quartet featuring female vocalist/guitarist and bassist, plus male drummer and guitarist, and we're back to late seventies New York punk rock here, with a vengeance. You could just imagine this coming blaring out from a soundtrack about that whole scene as every second of the three tracks and seven minutes are delivered with a power and passion that really hooks you in from start to finish. The giveaway track is that they cover the Runaways "Cherry Bomb" and really hit the spot with it, if anything better than the original - and I say that because this exudes that rawness which the original never had, and while not as overtly heavy, makes up for that with a punky vocal combined with an anthemic chorus that really cuts through. The Runaways always seemed to be a punk band trying to be a heavy rock band - this lots stay punk and proud of it - and the result is a cover that I'd play any day instead of the original, and there's not many you can say that about. Elsewhere, the CD opens with "Leather", a dirty sea of guitar riffs starting things off as the rhythm section steams in and this powerful Courtney Love sounding vocal, courtesy of Becca Bomb, just tears in and tears you apart on a solar flare of passionate hollering that makes you sit up and take notice as this stream of electrifying energy courses through the song, complete with guitar leads that suit. The whole effect is like some lost late seventies American punk classic resurrected in these times and sounding sooooo contemporary. I've played this track about five times already, and this is just the start. The third track on here, "Rock N Roll", starts with a riff that I've heard somewhere before and is just so addictive, as the band crunch in and this time a more "sung" vocal alternates with a high-flying chorus of energy-laden vocal passion as the roaring pop-punk song is hammered out to adrenaline-rousing effect, but with a structure and a delivery that can't fail to hook you in and make you want to play it over and over again, the band really laying down a fierce sea of rhythms and guitar fire throughout. As seven minutes goes, this is American-influenced pop-punk at its finest - and this is just a demo - the indie labels should be fighting over this band - watch them fly!!
