DUNDEE LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

SWORDMASTER-Demo/Album Sampler CD-EP

Just when you think you've heard everything that the incredibly varied and consistently excellent Dundee Scene has to offer, out of the woodwork comes something you've not witnessed before, in this case an instrumental rock quartet consistingof two lead & rhythm guitarists, bassist and drummer - and, boy, do they rock!! Taking their cues from the likes of a mixture of classic Thin Lizzy, Joe Satriani and Kong, the opening track, "Guardian Of The Waves", positively flies out of the speakers as the deliciously split twin guitar attack wreaks melodic havoc as the rhythm section steamrollers a path to destruction. But, despite the metal approach, there's always a sesne of dynamics in what they do. The track just flows so natuarlly, you never think for a second that it's missing anything. "Night Of The Wolves" hurtles along on a hurricane of fast-paced rhythmic strength as the twin guitars weave, scythe and fire their combined and separate ways though ther twisting, turning arrangement, the end result a fast but always solid and susbstantial sea of melody and riffing, the occasional solo soaring heavenwards before the main body of the track continues to drive the rock road to nirvana. The final track, "The March Towards Glory", starts with military drums before the chiming twin guitars are heard above rumbling bass and the effect is more a mix of Thin Lizzy and Man than anything. Then this huge riff enters, fades, another massive sounding guitar riff starts, the lead guitar takes off and the rhythm section stride out as the whole thing gallops its guitar-driven way to....well.....glory, to be honest. Again, the arrangement twists and turns without ever losing sight of the heart and strength of the composition, the riff keeping it together, the leads providing the dense icing on the huge-sounding cake. As instrumental guitar rock goes, this is stirring stuff, sounds even more fantastic live, and I, for one, can't wait to hear a full album. Absolutely superb!!
