SCOTLAND LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

THE ELVIS SUICIDE - Surveying The Young Professionals CD-EP

Aberdeen band's brand new single. Right from the start on the title track, the band work their magic with an atmosphere that pervades the song that starts with clipped guitar notes as the rolling drumming, pounding bass and then chiming lead guitar all decelerate as the soaring mid-register vocal emerges with passion and high-flying splendour as the rhythms roll forward even more powerfully and the band then take the song to flight as the vocal become more anguished, the electric guitar riffs and it all fires up. They then drop things back a bit as the vocals still power ahead and it's this mix of restraint and power that really grabs your attention, the song eventually letting the power take over as the electric guitar breaks out and leads to the strong finale.”Sat On The Bench” is a delightful contemporary indie ballad, admittedly delivered with mid-range heartfelt lead and harmony vocals, some strong and strident, superbly produced drumming as a deep bass undercurrent resonates underneath as the song ensues amid ringing guitar and those high-flying vocals. I have to admit that, now on my third listen to this song, its charms are really beginning to take hold and, despite the comments at the start, it's really growing on me as a song, a lot stronger than perhaps I initially thought and definitely showing that this band has a lot going on in their songs. “Boulders In The Sky” is largely a solo effort from the main guy on acoustic guitar and high-range vocals, a bit like a higher Roger Waters in part and you could almost imagine this song being on something like Pink Floyd's “Wall” album, very light and airy, but compulsive listening all the same. So, three songs that are tasty examples of what this band has to offer.
