DUNDEE LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

THE RAY SUMMERS - The Shepherd CD Single

Glasgow band who are making a point of bringing the American late sixties in line with contemporary indie music and managing to produce songs that will have an undoubted appeal to both audiences. Here they deliver a lead track that sounds more like a modern Glaswegian answer to Sly & The Family Stone, as the almost hoarse vocals soar above a rolling instrumentation of shuffling powerful rhythms, driving rhythm guitar and that seminal sixties organ sound to complete the picture. There's also added bite from lead guitar and textural vocal harmonies, all of which add to make a strong and refreshing track. The other track here, “Narcotic Girl”, is a slower affair, delivered with an emotive vocal mix of Joe Cocker and the guy out of The Draymin, as the song just glides along in a solid sea of lurching drumming, deep bass, keyboard and guitar rhythms plus a red hot lead guitar break in the middle, never at any point losing that sixties flavour which is such a trademark of this band, even managing at one point to go into ska territory to add to the variation and range of what this band is capable of delivering. Overall, a consistent, enjoyable, solid and addictive couple of tunes from a very distinctive band.
