THE OK SOCIAL CLUB-That Howden Sound CD-EP

It's a crying shame when a band produce a classic track that you can't play on the radio coz they stick a f***ing expletive in it!!! Whatever.....
This Scottish unsigned band veritably roar into your life with “Getting Away With It” as a veritable blitz of guitars, drums and percussion hit you like an express train as the momentum halts, then, with a burst of guitar, they turn things round to start this bouncing rhythm and cyclical lead guitars which herald a vocal that sounds like something right out of The View only smarter, delivering a song with urgency, passion and anger, as that fantastic vocal just flies through the track in the finest traditions of hard-assed, commercially viable, Scottish indie pop-punk, propelled by that blaze of guitars and driving beats. They follow this up with “Little Broken Bones”, this time ushered in by a Stranglers-styled bass, as a burst of guitar sees in a sea of guitars riffs and leads driven byt crunching drums and hissing cymbals as the vocal hollers out to perfection, delivering a lyrical smile of a song with the right combination of sneer, rage, sarcasm and splendour, another huge sounding track giving The View a run for their money only here we're less football terrace and more stadium anthem, to such a degree that you're not only leaping about the place but singing the thing at the top of your voice as those guitars sheer out in all directions, the rhythms coalesce into this tidal wave of sound and it's all one big solid monster of a track that's instant, addictive and serious fun. Finally, there's “RMT (Radio Days”)” where they finally slow down a tad for a sleazy ballad-like introduction that bounces along neatly over delicate acoustic strumming, the vocal full of yearning and emotion while still delivering a bitingly sarcastic lyric with a broad smile on its face. Then, as one, the band erupts, and this tornado of guitars, drums, percussion and bass just tears through the speakers – and disappears in a hail of feedback – and it's gone – there's no more – so you do the only thing you can do – and play the thing once again. Heady, powerful, fun and seriously catchy – welcome the the Club!!!
