SCOTLAND LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

THE MYSTERY GIRLS?-Radioactive CD

A West Lothian trio described as garage-punk but there lies a lot more to this band than that would lead you to believe. Across a dozen slices of trailblazing songs, they manage to have a distinct flavour of early Rolling Stones, a hint of The Ramones, echoes of Dr Feelgood, bits of New York Dolls and touches of late seventies Noo Yawk punk, all of which adds up to some searing heat and a wealth of stunning compositions. The three minute gem is alive and well on this album. There's the Rolling swagger of “Too Much Information”, the blitzkrieg (bop) of “Rubber Love” and “I'm So Tired Of You”, the early (keyboard-less) Stranglers assault of “Signs”, the Sham 69 attack of “Dumbing Down Democracy” and on it goes – twelve absolutely faultless slices of seventies-forged red hot punk full of burning guitars, driving rhythms, red hot leads and strong vocals from sneered and spat-out to hollered roar, all in that classic seventies punk style. Some albums don't need huge wordy reviews to convey just how great, memorable and enjoyable they truly are – and this is one of them. Into punk? Then get this album – it's a gem!!
