MERMAID ROCK PROMOTIONS

Mermaid Rock Promotions has been set up by SAZ's bassist Marina Mermaid and Dead Earnest's Andy G specifically to promote Clasic Rock and metal music in Dundee and beyond. Our first season of gigs at Dexters in Dundee in 2007 saw the finest set of rock acts to hit the city for years, from original to tribute bands. Under the banner of "Sabotage" which was exclusively for bands playing '70's/'80's influenced rock, it's been a major boost to the rock scene in Dundee and could only have happened thanks to the generosity, assistance and sense of adventure from Paul at Dexters, to whom we owe a great thank you.

At the end of 2007, we were finaly persuaded to do a gig at the recently remodelled Hustlers Snooker Hall, next to the Westport Bar, where new owner Dave reckoned that the facilities he had available were second to none in the city as in-house standards, so we gave it a try - and were thoroughly impressed. The gig went well, the sound was great, the attendance excellent and everyone gave great feedback.

So, for 2008, Mermaid is moving to a new home, the venue that is Hustlers in North Lyndsay Street. Full details of all Mermaid Rock activities can be found on the myspace site (link below) and gigs on the concerts listings of this site. One thing that will remain consistent is that any gig under the header of Mermaid Rock Promotions is guaranteed to be the best rock gig in town. One of the features of Mermaid Rock gigs is that we have DJ Andy (not me) who plays Classic Rock sounds before, in between and after the live sets, so that at no time does the flavour of rhe evening diminish - when you go to a Mermaid Rock gig, you get an entire evening of nothing but the best in Classic Rock.

You'll find our website at: Mermaid Rock Promotions
with details of all forthcoming gigs and links to the websites of the best in Scottish rock and metal, as well as many more beyond....this is your essential site for rock and metal music in Dundee.

Our first gig of 2008 featured all original bands and was a great success, including the return to Dundee of the seventies-inspired metal band from Glasgow, Gamble, Gamble and Drever, who went down exceptionally well with the audience.

The next gig will be the big one - possibly the biggest single rock gig of the year in Dundee, and the first in what is hoped will be an annual outing for "Monsterz Of Rock & Metal", the 14 hour Classic Rock festival that will feature a mix of original and tribute bands. There will be a total of 11 bands playing + DJ Andy, and the event will start at midday with the first band on at 12.30pm, with a closing time of 2.30am, the last band expected to finish by 1.00am. You get all this for a ticket price of just £9 for the whole event, and you can come and go as often as you like providing you have your ticket with you - no ticket, no entry! Tickets are on sale at the venue, from Marina Mermaid and from Grouchos Record, CD and ticket shop in the Nethergate in Dundee.

Future gigs lined up include the audience-demanded return of Maiden Scotland to do a ful-length set of Iron Maiden classics, and this will happen in May, while June will witness the Dundee debut of the UK's number one Motorhead tribute band, Motorheadache. IN July we have the long-awaited return to Dundee of Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne tribute band, Ozzbest, while August will see the return of the UK's leading biker metal band Dollar Sent, a must for metal fans and anyone into the likes of Motorhead and similar. More will be addedd to these line-ups and to the months ahead - watch this site and our Mermaid Rock myspace site for up to the minute details.
