Music Of Quality And Distinction - Served With A Smile

Nov 2011:
I originally set up the label to release one CD and one CD only - the first Krel CD - but the bug bit me and I ended up putting ten out!! Some sold well, a couple died horrible deaths, but I'm proud of all of them in different ways.
What you read below was the final chapter of the tale - before Hennisi and Leather Zoo borrowed the name for their respective CD album releases, and I collaborated with Nash The Slash to come up with the concept and tracklist for his 30 year retrospective album - left as it was written, purely for historical purposes and because it truly was the end point for the label.

Dead Earnest was an independent non-profit making label dedicated to releasing music across a broad spectrum of styles that is new, exciting and enjoyable.

The Dead Earnest name's origin stretches as far back as 1407 when a group of trappist monks were exiled on the Orkney Isles. One of their number was "Earnest the Edible" (the olde middle ages spelling of Earnest), so-called, since, due to a rare genetic disorder, he had carrots growing from the top of his head instead of the fiery red hair that he was born with, a blessing to the other monks, but a curse to poor Earnest. This, of course, is where the slang term "carrot top" emanates, for anyone with red hair. Because of this, the monks received food in an otherwise desolate place. Sadly, Earnest passed away and, in his honour, the monks would hand down songs, from generation to generation, in honour of the most unique of all their kind - Dead Earnest! We are so pleased to be able to be carrying on this unique tradition in modern times!! (and if you believe this.....well.....maybe it really is true....)

DEAD EARNEST DUNDEE - CHAPTER 2

For a long time now, it's been desire of mine to put out CD's by some of the bands on the Dundee Music Scene, a scene in which Dead Earnest has been an acknowledged helping hand to many of the bands in the area. So now, for our second release, we are happy to stand with heads held high and announce the debut album from Paula Knight.
With Paula on lead vocals guitars and keys, the trio play ten original songs, with influences including Kate Bush, Alanis Morissette and Rush, the album was professionally recorded in a Glasgow studio, fully remastered and mixed, varied in styles from ballads to rockers, and quality with a capital "Q"!!

DEAD EARNEST USA

In collaboration with the American band Secret Saucer, whose debut CD on Dead Earnest is now deleted (but CDR copies are now being repressed by the band privately in the USA), the second CD by the band is now available world-wide, following on from and developing the ideas laid down on the first release to stunning effect. Manufactured by the band in the USA, we have allowed them to use the Dead Earnest label for its release and feel privileged that they feel that this is a plus point towards the kudos of the album.

Also out on the "USA arm" of the label, is the new album by Secret Saucer musician, Greg Kozlowski. Released under the name of Antrilon, it's an instrumental cosmic electronic album that's very much a homage to the pioneers of the Krautrock early seventies while at the same time being unique and innovative in its own right.

DEAD EARNEST

The latest actual Dead Earnest CD label album is the long-awaited new studio album by leading electronic ambient/synth/chill-out pioneers Mooch, called "Gaiaspace" - released world-wide.
