Welcome to DEAD EARNEST.
Dead Earnest is an independent non-profit making label dedicated to releasing music across a broad spectrum of styles, on the surface, uncommercial (in the mainstream sense) but music that is new, exciting and enjoyable, with an increasing level of interest from media and music fans.

The Dead Earnest name's origin stretches as far back as 1407 when a group of trappist monks were exiled on the Orkney Isles. One of their number was "Earnest the Edible" (the olde middle ages spelling of Earnest), so-called, since, due to a rare genetic disorder, he had carrots growing from the top of his head instead of the fiery red hair that he was born with, a blessing to the other monks, but a curse to poor Earnest. This, of course, is where the slang term "carrot top" emanates, for anyone with red hair. Because of this, the monks received food in an otherwise desolate place. Sadly, Earnest passed away and, in his honour, the monks would hand down songs, from generation to generation, in honour of the most unique of all their kind - Dead Earnest! We are so pleased to be able to be carrying on this unique tradition in modern times!!

DEAD EARNEST DUNDEE

For a long time now, it's been desire of mine to put out CD's by some of the bands on the Dundee Music Scene, a scene in which Dead Earnest has been an acknowledged helping hand to many of the bands in the area. Since I'm also managing the lead singer (on this debut album), Michele McLaren, it seemed only fitting that the first CD on the label should be by Dundee's leading blues band, Mr Spider. Their debut album, "Web Of Lies", is out now and you can find all the info about the album, the band and their concerts, here and on the Dundee part of this website.

DEAD EARNEST USA

In collaboration with the American band Secret Saucer, whose debut CD on Dead Earnest is now deleted, CDR copies now being repressed by the band privately in the USA, the brand new CD by the band is now available world-wide, following on from and developing the ideas laid down on the first release to stunning effect. Manufactured by the band in the USA, we have allowed them to use the Dead Earnest label for its release and feel privileged that they feel that this is a plus point towards the kudos of the album.

DEAD EARNEST

The latest (and most probably last ever) Dead Earnest CD label album is the long-awaited new studio album by chill-out pioneers Mooch, called "Gaiaspace" - released world-wide. You can hear MP3 samples at the Mooch Myspace website.
