Music Of Quality And Distinction - Served With A Smile

THE DUNDEE MUSIC SCENE!!

(and beyond...)

Since I first encountered Altres' Brian Hutton by chance on a cycle track near Broughty Ferry in 2004, a meeting that led to me seeing my first Dundee "indie" band and being so bowled over, I just had to see what else the city had to offer in terms of original bands, I've been a passionate advocate of the Dundee Unsigned Music Scene - and those that got signed too - which eventually branched out into the Scottish Unsigned Scene in general, and then even outside of Scotland - for those bands that could match up!
I've written about them, been to many hundreds of gigs, organised, promoted, advertised and ran hundreds of gigs and a few festivals in the city at nearly all the major independent music venues, been a consistent and geuninely forthright advocate of the bands' and artists' music, and have even been given the chance to promote all the music via my ongoing weekly radio show on Radio North Angus,"The Sound", that's now actually streamed live every Saturday via their website.
A change in my working hours meant that, since start of 2010 I don't get to nearly as many gigs as I used to, something the medical people responsible for the well being of my hearing, will at least be breathing a sigh of relief about, but I still try to cover what I can - because I enjoy the ones I know and I still want to "discover" the ones I don't.
This site has always been meant to satisfy my desires to write and to present you with a gateway towards some fantastic bands and their songs & music - to that end, it still fulfills its function. Never intended to be anything above its station, I hope that what you see here will continue to be informative, interesting and entertaining.

NOVEMBER 2011 Update
What you see below may be of historical interest, but technology moves fast. With the advent of websites such as Facebook, Reverbnation and Soundcloud challenging the likes of myspace as sites on which to promote your band, it's now got to the point where many of the up and coming bands no longer have a myspace site in preference to the others, or have a rudimentary myspace site in deference to the others.
As a result, it gets harder, espcially with the amount of time available, to keep this bit up to date, when in fact the idea of linking to myspace sites is now "old history" anyway, 'coz few bands take any notice. Nearly all the bands you want to know about are using Facebook as they're main weapon of choice when it comes to PR.
Also, the number of new bands that appear throughout Scotland is quite numerous. Originally it was my intention just to feature, on this bit, bands I'd seen live in concert, but then the Radio Show began and I started discovering a whole load of great Scottish unsigned bands that I didn't get to see play live.
So, this leaves us with three things:
1)As I can't be bothered to change this for now, I'll just update it as bands disappear!!
2)If you want to see a list of the unsigned Scottish (& beyond...) bands that really matter - right here, right now - then go to the playlist page for my Radio North Angus show "The Sound" - better still listen to the thing every Saturday via the Radio North Angus website!!
3)You'll find most of the bands that I love and write about are joined on my Facebook site and you can find me on Facebook under "Andy Gee".
GOT ALL THAT? Good....
