ESTHER O'CONNOR - Lost Innocence CD Single

Latest offering from the flame-haired singer and the title track is a thing of greatness. It starts with delicate drumming, chiming guitar and the warm, husky wisp of an emotive vocal that the lady conveys so effortlessly before the drums strengthen, the band takes off and the multi-tracked vocal all soar into the chorus that just makes you heart feel good as it lifts you up and takes you off into that special place. That's pretty well the song – warm verses, uplifting chorus and a neatly strident if brief middle eight plus an equally strong guitar break of extreme brevity also – but it's three and a half minutes of songwriting, singing and playing that stands shoulder to shoulder with the likes of some of the finest female singer-songwriters of the last 20 years. “Other Side” features a more higher register vocal, no particular hook or chorus, but a gorgeously sung song that flows along neatly on a river of delicate rhythmic strength, crisp acoustic guitar and warm, emotive vocals that are single- and double-tracked to great effect as the memorable and enjoyable song unfolds slowly but surely, another thing of great beauty. Just two tracks but two tracks you'll love to the day you die – and two excellent reasons for getting hold of this single.
