SCOTLAND LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

BEATNIC PRESTIGE - 9 Clicks CD-EP

First official release, superbly recorded and a good time guaranteed for all as three surging slice of indie punk rock 'n' roll, plus a slower one for good measure, live up to everything the band's been promising for the last couple of years of gigs. The EP kicks off with the title track, opening with the band laying down a surging guitar riff over fast-paced Bo Diddley drumming and pounding bass, before the guitars move up a notch in terms of intensity and pace as the harmony vocals at first slide in then surge ahead as the lead vocal powers up, delivering a speed-of-light lyric to flowing degree as the mix of wordless multi-part harmony chorus and heady mix of story-telling and observationally aware lyricism just stride out leaving you almost breathless in admiration as you are defied not to leap around the room and sing along at the top of your voice. The guitars blaze a lead trail at odd intervals as the song just flies like a jet fighter with an equally powerful effect. Almost too soon, it's gone but it leaves suh an impression that, despite the fact that you're already humming the thing wildly in your head, all you want to do is play it again. But you resist the urge – just!! - and move forward to “Pearfect” which blazes an almost as fast trail but slightly more restrained as another gem of a song flies ahead, more superb lyrics that make you laugh and keep you hooked, surge from the speakers. The band continue to play a muscular sea of rhythmic strength with addictive beats under a mass of punk r'n'b rhythms and pub-rock guitar density. Another song that's over all too soon, still really catchy and another that you can't resist the urge to sing along and dance. Following these two scorching slices of red hot indie punk-pop, there comes “Charlie Brown”, a much slower, electro-acoustic number, with more strong multi-tracked lead vocals, as the featured lead vocalist delivers a lyrically entrancing and absolutely charming gem of a song with strength, passion and grace, another wordless hook adding to its wide-eyed smile of enjoyment, as good an indie ballad as you'll find in many a more famous band's repertoire and superbly played and arranged. The band finish with a new recording of the long-standing favourite “Doubtfire”, another racing, red hot and roaring sea of guitars, drums and bass belting out a storm force hurricane of rock 'n' roll rhythms, punk attitude and such a seriously well written song, that the vocalist delivers at fast-paced dexterity, as with all the others, allowing every word to be heard and sung to perfection. Yet again, insanely catchy, it's the equivalent of getting your kicks on route 66 at a pace that's just hair-raising. What really makes this work so well is that the band don't overdo anything, they keep it all within a song-based framework, but they inject an energy, a vitality, a freshness of approach that make the three fast-paced offerings just so immensely enjoyable, and if you enjoy what you hear, you'll continue to play it – and play this – long, loud and often – you most surely will.
