SCOTLAND LIVE - BANDS TO WATCH!!

AD ASTRA (UK) - Rockers: Live Bootleg Mini-Album CD

Well.....it's certainly a bootleg, alright........it sounds like what the bootleggers used to call an “excellent audience recording”, largely because you get that echoey lack of resonance on the drums and the fact that the bass largely rumbles along the bottom of the mix with a presence more than anything particularly noticeable as regards detail. However, that said – and bearing mind that it's pretty well an untouched mixing desk recording so it's actually a lot better than perhaps I've described – what really makes this work are three things – the guitars that are on fire and right out front, riffing and soloing like banshees on heat, followed by the powerful vocals that carry a rip-roaring set of classic metal songs through a hurricane of molten rock, and finally, the sheer passion, fire, energy, enthusiasm, power and strength that the band inject into a septet of scorching metal compositions. You don't leave this thing humming any of the songs or, indeed, having any of them swirling away inside you head afterwards. But what does keep you coming back to this is the certainty that, every time you hear it, you're going to be leaping around the room with enough adrenaline pumping around your body to keep a small army on its feet for weeks as you drown in a sea of stunningly delivered Classic Rock and Metal mayhem. It may not be the best quality thing in the world, but the sheer power and passion of its execution, more than makes up for any defects – amazes me to say it, but highly recommended.
